Zurn Z1172-1500 Acid Resistant Grease Trap - 300 GPM, 600 lb, 5" Inlet
Zurn Z1172-1500 — 300 GPM Acid Resistant Steel Grease Interceptor
The Zurn Z1172-1500 is a large capacity, acid resistant coated fabricated steel grease interceptor rated at 300 GPM and 600 lbs. of grease capacity, with a 665 gallon liquid holding volume and 5" inlet and outlet connections. Built for high-volume commercial kitchens that overwhelm an under-sink trap, it ships complete with the required flow control fitting, an internal air relief by-pass, a visible double wall trap seal and gasketed non-skid covers — ready to install above or below grade.
Key Features of the Z1172-1500
Every element of the Z1172 series is aimed at one thing: separating and holding a very large volume of fats, oils and grease without choking the drain line or forcing constant service calls.
Acid Resistant Coated Steel
Heavy fabricated steel body with an acid resistant coating applied to both the interior and exterior, so the tank stands up to aggressive kitchen waste, hot water and damp floor conditions on either side of the wall.
Internal Air Relief By-Pass
An internal by-pass vents trapped air inside the interceptor, protecting the trap seal and keeping the unit draining freely during the heavy, surging flows a 300 GPM kitchen produces.
Visible Double Wall Trap Seal
The double wall trap seal is visible for inspection and includes a removable pressure equalizing / flow diffusing baffle, which calms incoming flow so grease separates instead of being pushed straight through to the outlet.
Bronze Cleanout Plug & Sampling Port
A bronze cleanout plug gives service crews direct access for pump-outs and doubles as a sampling port — useful where the local sewer authority requires periodic effluent testing.
Two Gasketed Non-Skid Covers
The Z1172-1500 carries two secured, gasketed non-skid covers with removable lift handles — odor-tight in service, and quick to open for cleaning without wrestling a single oversized lid.
Flow Control Fitting Included
Every unit ships complete with its flow control fitting, so the interceptor sees the rated 300 GPM it was designed around rather than an uncontrolled surge that would blow grease past the baffle.
Delivery note: this interceptor weighs roughly 1,770 lbs. bare and about 1,900 lbs. on its pallet, so a lift gate is highly recommended unless you have a dock or forklift on site. Free freight applies to a commercial address in the continental USA with no special services; residential, inside or limited-access deliveries are quoted separately.
Ideal Applications
At 300 GPM and 600 lbs. of grease storage, the Z1172-1500 is a central, whole-kitchen interceptor rather than a single-fixture trap.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between the Zurn Z1172-1400 and the Z1172-1500?
They are two sizes in the same series. The Z1172-1400 is rated at 250 GPM with 500 lbs. of grease capacity and a 465 gallon liquid volume, while the Z1172-1500 on this page is rated at 300 GPM with 600 lbs. of grease capacity and 665 gallons of liquid volume. The -1500 is also physically larger at 80" x 58-5/8" x 46-1/4" versus 71" x 51-5/8" x 41" for the -1400.
Does the Z1172-1500 come with a flow control fitting?
Yes. The interceptor is furnished complete with its flow control fitting. The fitting is what limits incoming flow to the rated 300 GPM; without it, an uncontrolled surge can carry grease past the baffle and straight out the outlet, which is also why most inspectors look for it at rough-in.
Can this interceptor be installed below grade or in a traffic area?
Yes. The Z1172 series is designed for above or below grade installation. For a recessed or below-floor installation, extension sections (-E / -ER) bring the cover up to finished floor level, and the heavy duty traffic cover option (-HD) is available where vehicles will pass over the unit.
How often does a 600 lb. grease interceptor need to be pumped?
The common rule of thumb is to service the interceptor once the accumulated grease and solids reach about 25% of its capacity, which for a 600 lb. unit is roughly 150 lbs. Real-world intervals depend on menu, volume and local sewer authority requirements, so check your municipal FOG ordinance — many jurisdictions mandate a fixed maximum interval regardless of load.
What size are the inlet and outlet, and where are they located?
The Z1172-1500 has 5" inlet and outlet connections, regularly furnished in the high position, with the inlet centerline 39-5/8" up from the bottom of the tank. Other inlet and outlet positions are available from the factory — contact us before ordering if your piping requires a different arrangement.
How does the Z1172-1500 ship, and do I need a lift gate?
It ships by LTL freight on a pallet at approximately 1,900 lbs. Free freight is included to a commercial address in the continental USA with no special services. If the delivery site has no dock or forklift, a lift gate is highly recommended and should be added to the order — a 1,900 lb. pallet cannot be hand-unloaded.
