Blue Air BBB59-2S-HC — 59" Two-Section Back Bar Cooler with Solid Doors

The Blue Air Commercial Refrigeration BBB59-2S-HC is the 59-inch entry in the brand's solid-door back bar range: a stainless steel cabinet holding 19.4 cu. ft. behind two locking solid doors, with four adjustable shelves split two per section. It sits 37" tall and 27-1/8" deep on a front-breathing, side-mounted 3/8 HP condensing unit, so it slides into a bar run without a rear air gap and comes out for service without unbuilding the millwork. Cooling is R-290 hydrocarbon refrigerant held between 33 °F and 39 °F on 3.5 amps from one 115 V circuit.

Key Features of the BBB59-2S-HC

At 59" this is the mid-size cabinet in Blue Air's back bar family, and most of what decides whether it is the right one comes down to how the box is built rather than how wide it is.

59" Footprint, 19.4 cu. ft. Inside

The cabinet measures 59" long by 27-1/8" deep by 37" high and weighs 220 lbs net, 240 lbs as shipped. That 37" height is the standard back bar working height, and the 19.4 cu. ft. inside sits between the single-door BBB23 at 7.9 cu. ft. and the 69-1/8" BBB69 at 23.4 cu. ft.

Interior Height Built for Tall Boys

Blue Air sizes the interior so three 16 oz "tall boy" cans stack on top of one another between shelves. With four adjustable shelves — two in each section — you can keep one bay on that tall-can spacing and drop the other down for 12 oz bottles.

Two Locking Solid Doors with Recessed Handles

Both doors lock as standard, so a closing shift secures the whole 19.4 cu. ft. in place. The handles are black recessed pulls that sit flush with the door face rather than projecting into a service aisle, and the gaskets are the snap-in type that a manager can replace without a service call.

R-290 Hydrocarbon Refrigerant

The 3/8 HP self-contained system is charged with R-290, which Blue Air rates as up to 25% more energy efficient than the HFC refrigerants it replaces and which carries no ozone depletion potential. The whole cabinet draws just 3.5 amps at 115 V / 60 Hz single phase.

Side-Mounted Compressor on a Sliding Deck

The condensing unit is mounted to the side and breathes through the front, which is why a 59" box can be built tight between cabinetry. It rides on a sliding deck, so a technician pulls the whole refrigeration assembly forward for cleaning or repair instead of dragging a 220 lb cabinet out of the bar.

Foamed-In-Place Insulation, Epoxy Evaporator, Auto Defrost

High-density polyurethane insulation is foamed in place around the box for a tight thermal envelope, and the evaporator is epoxy coated to resist the corrosion that beer and citrus spills cause. A hot-gas frame heating circuit keeps condensation off the door frame while reclaiming that heat, and defrost is fully automatic.

Fitting it into the bar: because the compressor breathes from the front, the BBB59-2S-HC does not need a rear or side air gap — the only thing that must stay clear is the front grille, so do not box it in behind a kick panel or a stack of case goods. Plan the opening around 59" wide, 27-1/8" deep and 37" high as supplied; optional 6" legs are available if you need to lift the cabinet for floor cleaning, and they will add to that finished height.

Where It Works

Ideal Applications

A 59" solid-door cabinet is the size most bars land on when one section is not enough and a 90" run will not fit.

Neighborhood Bars and Taprooms Two bays hold a full night of bottle and can par at 33 °F to 39 °F within reach of the well.
Restaurant Service Bars Solid doors keep back-stock out of the guest's sightline while the stainless top stays a work surface.
Beer Case Storage Tall-boy interior height and adjustable shelves let cans and bottles share the same cabinet.
Hotel and Club Back-of-House Standard locks on both doors suit venues where staff and access rotate nightly.
Tight Bar Millwork Front-breathing refrigeration allows the cabinet to be built in flush with no rear clearance.
Concession and Event Bars One 115 V, 3.5 amp circuit and a NEMA 5-15P plug make temporary bar setups straightforward.

Under Blue Air's current warranty certificate the BBB back bar cabinets — this BBB59-2S-HC among them — carry five years parts and labor plus a seven-year compressor term in the USA. The unit has to be registered within 15 days of installation for that coverage to stand. Wear parts such as gaskets, shelves, casters and lamps are excluded, and so is any claim for product lost to spoilage.
Good to Know

Frequently Asked Questions

How many doors and shelves does the BBB59-2S-HC actually have?

Two locking solid doors and four adjustable shelves, two shelves in each of the two sections. It is worth confirming this against the spec rather than reading the model number, because the digit in Blue Air's BBB codes tracks the cabinet size in the series and not the door count — the BBB69-3S-HC, for example, is also a two-door cabinet.

What is the difference between the BBB59-2S-HC and the BBB59-2B-HC?

They are the same 59", 19.4 cu. ft. two-section cabinet with the same refrigeration package. The "S" version you see here is finished in stainless steel on the exterior, while the "B" version uses black vinyl coated steel walls under a stainless top. Choose the S when the cabinet is visible from the guest side or has to match a stainless bar front.

Can the BBB59-2S-HC be built in without clearance behind it?

Yes. The condensing unit is mounted at the side of the cabinet and takes its air from the front, which is specifically what allows a back bar cooler to sit flush against a wall or inside millwork. Keep the front grille unobstructed and the unit will breathe correctly; there is no rear air gap requirement.

Will 16 oz tall boy cans fit on the shelves?

They will — Blue Air specifies the interior height of this cabinet so three tall boys stack between shelf levels. Because all four shelves are adjustable, you can set one section for that tall-can spacing and tighten the other section down for shorter bottles or mixers as your list changes.

What electrical service does it need?

A single standard 115 V, 60 Hz single-phase outlet. The BBB59-2S-HC draws 3.5 amps and arrives with a three-wire flexible cord and molded NEMA 5-15P plug, so an ordinary grounded 15 amp receptacle is sufficient — no dedicated high-amperage circuit and no hard wiring.

How does the cooler handle condensation and defrosting?

A hot-gas frame heating circuit routes discharge heat through the door frame to keep condensation from forming there, which also puts that heat back to work instead of rejecting it. Defrost is automatic, and the evaporator coil is epoxy coated to resist corrosion from the spills a bar cooler inevitably sees.
